AI Summary is an intelligent navigation service that precisely analyzes the audio data of content to summarize key points and automatically organizes chapters by capturing topic transition moments.

Rather than simple time-based segmentation, it uses AI technology to perform deep analysis of the context extracted from text, accurately identifying points where topics logically change. This allows users to instantly navigate to desired sections and quickly acquire key information even in lengthy videos.

Data dependency and technical mechanism​

Since AI Summary uses advanced text analysis algorithms, precise subtitle data must be available as a prerequisite.

  • AI Subtitle data required: This feature analyzes context based on AI Subtitle data generated by the system.
  • Workflow: If the content does not have AI Subtitles, the process will be completed sequentially through [Generate AI Subtitle] → [Context analysis] → [Generate AI Summary].

Quality and operational constraints​

  • Minimum video length: Content shorter than 5 minutes may not have chapters generated due to difficulty in identifying logical context.
  • Data density: Content with very little audio may have lower analysis accuracy.
  • Speech recognition rate: In cases of heavy background noise or unclear pronunciation, the misrecognition rate of AI Subtitle (STT) increases, which may make the summary context somewhat unnatural.

Data exposure scope​

  • Customer exclusive: AI Summary (Keynote) and Key keywords data are only used for management purposes (LMS integration, marketing, etc.) in the Kollus VOD console.
  • Visible to users: Only chapter information is exposed in the player navigation bar.

Player compatibility​

To properly expose chapter information to users, you must use a player version equal to or higher than the following.

  • Kollus Web Player: Latest version
  • Kollus App Player for iOS: v2.2.37 (SDK v2.3.31) or higher
  • Kollus App Player for Android: v2.1.17 (SDK v3.0.12) or higher

Generating AI Summary​

Pre-check list

AI Summary can only be generated for content that meets all of the following technical conditions.

  • Security policy: Content without Multi DRM applied
    • Standard content(unencrypted) and Kollus DRM content are eligible for AI Summary generation.
  • Audio quality: Content where the audio sample rate of the transcoded file is 16kHz or higher

Auto-generation when uploading new content​

If you enable the AI Summary option during the content upload step, the summary and chapters will be automatically generated after transcoding is complete.

  1. In Kollus VOD console > [Library], click [Content upload] in the upper right corner.
  2. Select [AI Summary] from the upload options.
  3. In the settings window, select the spoken language of the video and click [Confirm]. Korean (KO) and English (EN) are currently supported.
  4. Drag and drop the file into the upload area or click [Select file] to select the content to upload.
  5. The system processes the data through the following sequential pipeline.
    • [Upload] → [Transcoding] → [Generate AI Subtitle] → [Generate AI Summary]
  6. Once all processes are complete, the 'AI Summary' tag will be displayed below the title.

You can also automatically generate AI Summary via FTP upload by using folder naming conventions.

Generating for existing content​

You can also generate AI Summary for content that has already been uploaded.

Method 1: Generate from the content list​

  1. In Kollus VOD console > [Library] or [Channel], select the checkbox to the left of the target content.
  2. Click [Generate AI Summary] in the bottom toolbar.
  3. The system checks for the existence of AI Subtitles and automatically starts the process. (If no AI Subtitles exist, a language selection popup will appear.)
  4. Once all processes are complete, the 'AI Summary' tag will be displayed below the title.

Method 2: Generate from the [Overview] tab​

  1. In Kollus VOD console > [Library] or [Channel], click the title of the target content.
  2. In the [Overview] tab, click [Generate AI Summary].
  3. The system checks for the existence of AI Subtitles and automatically starts the process. (If no AI Subtitles exist, a language selection popup will appear.)
  4. Once all processes are complete, the 'AI Summary' tag will be displayed below the title.

Viewing AI Summary content​

  1. In Kollus VOD console > [Library] or [Channel], click the title of the target content.

You can directly edit the generated AI results to suit your service needs. The data specifications for each item must be observed.

  1. In Kollus VOD console > [Library] or [Channel], click the title of the target content.
  2. In the [Overview] tab > [AI Summary] tab, click [Edit].

  • Enter the [Start time ~ End time] range, then press [Space bar] or [Enter] to write the content.

Time rules

  • Logical order: The start time must precede the end time, and the overall list must be in ascending order.
  • Range limit: The start and end times cannot exceed the total length of the content.

Data entry limits

  • Number of items: Up to 5 items can be entered.
  • Text length: The total character count is limited to 5,000 characters including spaces.

Downloading AI Summary files​

Data that has been generated and edited can be exported as a CSV file for external management.

  1. In Kollus VOD console > [Library] or [Channel], click the title of the target content.
  2. In the [Overview] tab > [AI Summary] tab, click [Download].

Player display method​

The generated chapter information is displayed on the progress bar so that users can intuitively understand the structure of the video.

  • Chapter markers: Chapter start points are displayed as vertical lines on the progress bar.
  • Chapter information: When hovering over or dragging a specific section, the title and thumbnail of that chapter are displayed.

Q. For what types of content can AI Summary be generated?​

AI Summary can only be generated for content that meets all of the following technical conditions.

  • Kollus DRM: AI Summary generation is possible.
  • Multi DRM: Due to the strong security specifications of the content itself, audio extraction is blocked, making AI Summary generation impossible.

Q. Can AI Summary be generated using standard subtitles uploaded directly by the customer?​

No. The AI Summary feature is designed to precisely integrate the timestamp information and text from AI Subtitle data generated by Kollus's STT engine. Generating summaries and chapters using manually uploaded subtitles is not possible.

Q. How long does it take to complete AI Summary generation?​

Generally, it takes approximately 10 minutes for a 60-minute video. (This may vary depending on audio quality and system load.)

Q. Can an in-progress job be cancelled midway?​

No. Once AI Summary generation has started, system resources are immediately allocated, so it cannot be cancelled midway.
